  • Vulnerable populations engage in behaviors that support their health and wellness.
  • Vulnerable populations obtain needed physical and mental health care and services.

United Way funds the following health programs and initiatives:

Community Mental Health Counseling:

Hillcrest Family Services

Offers a broad range of core community health services including assessment, therapy, medication management, comprehensive, care coordination, and crisis response services to individuals or groups dealing with, or in recovery of, mental illness or substance abuse in Dubuque County and the Tri-State area.

Disaster Services:

American Red Cross

Provides safe shelter, food, emotional support, emergency relief supplies, recovery assistance and basic mental health services in the community during times of disaster.

Domestic Abuse Center*:

Helping Services for Youth & Families

Provides free essential supportive services by offering confidential advocacy, support and resources for victims of domestic violence in seven Northeast Iowa Counties.

United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States

Empowers people with the information and tools they need to make smart decisions about purchasing their prescription medication will lead to stronger and healthier communities.

High-Risk Youth Program:

Substance Abuse Services Center

Identifies & provides services to the high-risk youth population who are using or at risk of using alcohol & other drugs.

Meal & Educations Program:

Boys & Girls Club

Addresses local food insecurity by serving over 28,000 nutritious meals and snacks based on USDA guidelines to area low income youth annually.

Mental Health Counseling:
Catholic Charities

Provides affordable, professional mental health counseling for individuals, couples, children, and families experiencing various social, emotional, and interpersonal struggles to anyone in need, regardless of faith, background, or ability to pay.

Representative Payee Program*:

Dubuque Visiting Nurse Association

Provides individuals enrolled in Social Security Disability with a payee coordinator to oversee financial control of their funds to ensure individuals have access to basic necessities.

Rides to Wellness*:

Delaware Dubuque Jackson Region 8 Transit Authority

Provides free vouchers for transportation for individuals and families in Delaware County that cannot afford the normal fare for rides to their wellness activities.

Service to Armed Forces:

American Red Cross

Serves and supports members of the military, veterans, and their families. Provides needed comfort and care in military and veteran's hospitals, support for military families with vital social services, and provides emergency communications to keep families connected when they need it most.

Therapy Services*:

Riverview Center

Provides free therapy services for survivors of sexual assault in Allamakee and Clayton Counties, using research-based modalities to address the root causes of a multitude of negatives outcome from this traumatic crimes, including help with negative coping behaviors to support their long-term health, wellness and safety.

Triple Play:

Boys and Girls Club of Greater Dubuque

Utilizes the mind, body and soul as the key components to ensure we are providing a well-rounded program for some of the most under privileged youth of our community.

Violence Prevention Education:
Riverview Center

Provides free, compassionate, client-centered prevention & intervention services for individuals affected by sexual & domestic violence.

Volunteer Services:

American Red Cross

Premier organization for people, groups, and organizations to donate their time and talent.
