Program Overview

IGNITE is a six-month leadership development experience designed specifically for nonprofit professionals seeking to grow their capacity, strengthen organizational impact, and advance equity in the nonprofit sector. The program includes monthly peer learning sessions, skill-building activities, and individualized support to foster long-term leadership, sustainability, and innovation.


Program Parameters

  • Duration: 6 months
  • Monthly Time Commitment: Approximately 8 hours/month, which includes 3 hours of on-site instruction with additional time expected as a commitment for self-guided follow up activities tied to each month’s training curriculum
  • Format: In-person cohort gatherings; self guided activities may include reading materials, infusing learning into an activity in your workplace, or follow up with a peer/community leader
  • Facilitators/Curriculum: Training sessions will be led by Alison Fuller, Founder of Driftless Consulting group and Danielle Leibfried, President/CEO of United Way.  Curriculum topics include: Financial Acumen, Leadership and Management Skills, Fundraising and Development, Board Development and Governance, Equity and Inclusion, Self-Efficacy and Retention Skills
  • Location: United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States 215 W. 6th St. Dubuque, IA 
  • Cohort Size:Maximum capacity of 15 attendees;  Priority will be given to current executive directors of nonprofits; Other key organizational leaders may apply although only one applicant per organization will be accepted, per cohort.
  • Requirements: Applicants must be employed at a 501c3 that offers services or supports that include coverage of the City of Dubuque.
  • Organizational Cost: $100/attendee to be paid at enrollment;  Additional expenses will be covered through partnerships with the City of Dubuque and United Way.

Commitment from the Participating Organization

  • Support the participant’s time away from regular duties (~3 hours/month for in person activities and follow up learning opportunities of up to 5 hours/month).
  • Provide a training stipend of $100/attendee.
  • Encourage application of learning within the organization.
  • Sign a brief statement of support from a supervisor or board member.
     

Commitment from the Participant

  • Attend all monthly sessions and complete assigned reflections/activities.
  • Engage in peer learning and contribute to a supportive cohort culture.
  • Integrate knowledge and tools relevant to their organization within their work.
  • Maintain communication and engagement throughout the program.
  • Participate in pre/post survey questionnaires to measure key performance indicators.

Who Should Apply

  • Priority will be given to current executive directors of nonprofits and other key organizational leadership, however, only one person/organization will be included in the this training cohort.
  • Individuals committed to personal growth, innovation, and equity.
  • Staff from nonprofit organizations serving underrepresented communities.
  • Leaders ready to collaborate, strengthen skills and contribute to improving the fabric of our local nonprofit sector as well as applicants from diverse backgrounds.

  • Participant Notification: October 23, 2025
  • Program Dates/Time: In person sessions will run from 8:30 - 11:30 am on the following dates: Tuesday, November 11, 2025; Tuesday, December 9, 2025; Tuesday, January 13, 2026; February 10, 2026; March 10, 2026; April 14, 2026.

All applicants will be notified on October 23, 2025 if they have been accepted into this cohort training or placed onto a waiting list. It is our intent to offer this opportunity one time per year, as funding allows.
