Little Free Library

United Way's affinity group Women United, coordinates volunteers to monitor and keep stocked 19 Little Free Libraries in the tri-state area. Little Free Libraries serve as neighborhood book exchanges and proved 24/7 access to books.

The goal of this program is to get books in the hands of children because we know 2 our of 10 children enter kindergarten with skills 2 to 3 years lower than their grade level. And another 2 children start school with a 1-year disadvantage. Children from homes of poverty do not have as much exposure to language. By age of 3, there is a  between children from the lower income families than middle or upper income homes.

United Way always accepts donations of new or gently used children’s books to help keep our Little Free Libraries stocked during business hours at our office located at 215 W. 6th Street, Dubuque.
