United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States is excited to offer a free, online 21-Day Equity Challenge during the month of September at www.IowaEquityChallenge.org.
United Ways across Iowa have come together to create a custom 21-Day Equity Challenge to raise awareness about the particular ways racism, discrimination, and inequities affect our state.
The challenge provides a dedicated time and space for people from all walks of life to learn about the inequities and barriers to opportunity that many Iowans face. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of important issues, reflect on their personal journey, and identify actionable solutions — large and small — that can create meaningful change over time.
All Iowans are invited to register for the free 21-Day Equity Challenge at www.IowaEquityChallenge.org. As part of the self-guided journey, participants will receive an email each weekday, from September 1st through 30th, with readings, videos, podcasts, and ideas to take action. Each day will feature a different topic, and participants are challenged to engage with at least one of the three to four pieces of content they receive.
Daily topics include Implicit Bias, Learning Disparities, Foster Youth, Child Care, Mental Health, Housing Disparities & Discrimination, Generational Wealth, and many more. The content for each topic has been curated by a curriculum committee composed of representatives from multiple United Ways who are equity experts or have lived experience with prejudice and discrimination.
“This is a powerful opportunity to grow together in our understanding of the inequities facing many of our fellow Iowans,” says Danielle Peterson, President/CEO of United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States. “Although we are all at different stages in our equity journey, people in our community are committed to helping their neighbors overcome challenges and thrive in life. At its core, that’s what this Equity Challenge is about.”
United Way believes that addressing inequity is necessary to ensure that all Iowans have a chance at an education, a good job, a healthy life, and a secure future. This statewide challenge will bring thousands of Iowans together in shared learning and growth — an important step toward creating a more equitable state for everyone.
The United Ways of Iowa 21-Day Equity Challenge is sponsored by Alliant Energy, Cargill (Cedar Rapids and Eddyville facilities), Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust, and GreenState Credit Union.
United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States connects people and resources to advance the health, education, and income of those in need in our community. The organization brings individuals and other groups together around innovative solutions to impact thousands of lives annually.
