United Way Launches New Leadership Initiative to Strengthen Nonprofit Network
United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States is proud to announce the launch of IGNITE: Inspiring Growth in Nonprofit Innovation, Talent & Equity – A United Way Leadership Initiative. This new, six-month, pilot program is made possible through a grant from the City of Dubuque.
Over the past 18 months, our community has faced more than half a dozen executive-level vacancies within nonprofit organizations. Without strong leadership in these roles, critical services that many in our community rely on may be at risk. That is why United Way developed IGNITE.
The IGNITE training program is designed specifically for nonprofit professionals who are eager to strengthen their leadership skills, increase organizational impact, and advance equity across the sector. Participants will engage in monthly peer learning sessions, hands-on skill-building activities, and receive individualized support to foster long-term leadership, sustainability, and innovation.

United Way recognizes today’s nonprofit leaders must balance mission alignment with financial sustainability while wearing many hats -- IT, HR, finance, operations, and more. IGNITE will provide leaders the tools, resources, and peer connections to strengthen their skills broadly, preparing them to lead effectively now while also building and mentoring the next generation of leaders who will carry our community forward.
The pilot program will take applications from interested nonprofit leaders from October 6-17, 2025. Outcomes from the pilot will help shape future leadership development opportunities offered through United Way.
